I've been craving some new glasses lately.

You know what it's like, fellow glasses-wearers. You reach a point where you're just absolutely sick at the sight of your old glasses - and you crave a shiny, new pair. A pair that you haven't accidentally sat on, isn't covered in smudges and you haven't been photographed in 2,324 times.

(Okay this might be a slight exaggeration, but you get the point.)

You want a new pair of glasses to add to your collection and you want it now darn it.

I had all of these feels recently. I was about to make an emergency trip to my local Specsavers when an email from the good folks at GlassesShop.com arrived in my inbox. At exactly the right time. (How did you guys even know?)

For those of you who aren't already aware, I introduced y'all to GlassesShop.com back in January. (Y'all? I seem to have turned American - it must be the consequence of dating one.)

GlassesShop.com are an online American retailers specialising in prescription sunglasses and eyeglasses.

They kindly sent me a fabulous pair of floral blue glasses frames late last year from their AW16 collection (which I absolutely adore, still wear and haven't yet sat on - FYI). And this time I got to choose a pair from their sexy SS17 collection.

Usually I play it safe and go for rectangular frames; however, I really fancied something different. As I touched upon earlier, I have an American boyf, and he recently bought a new pair of glasses that were oval-shaped Wayfarer-style.

The top half of the frames is black acetate and the bottom half is metal. And I liked them so much that I decided to copy him.

I saw these black/golden beauties on the website and immediately fell in love. I adore the fusion of textures and the oval frames themselves seem to suit my face shape. Plus, I've seen a lot of glasses on the market recently with this style of frame - they seem to be extremely fashionable for this season - so it's a win, win!

Now this means that the boyf and I are twins - but who cares when my new glasses are this nice! I'm all kitted out, in terms of glasses, for another season. Thank you, GlassesShop.com!

What to Wear for a SS17 Wedding

Earlier this month, I was invited to one of my sister's best friends' wedding.

It's important to mention that I love everything about weddings. Well - ALMOST everything.

I love the concept, the gathering of different people who mean the most to the bride and groom, the dresses, the flowers, the speeches, the sentiments and the fact that everybody is there to celebrate the love between two people. They're such happy occasions!

HOWEVER. I don't like having to decide what to wear. (I know, right? #firstworldproblems)

If I was a bridesmaid, this decision would be taken off me - which I would only be too glad about.

Don't get me wrong, I like to dress up every now and then. I am a gal, after all. But there's often so much pressure on what to wear for weddings, what to have your hair like and which shoes to put on. Especially for us females, as we also have to think about additional things, such as the choice of accessories and how to have our make-up.

My personal style is quite casual and rough around the edges nowadays, therefore I struggle with some of these major glamorous outfit decisions. Luckily I always have my sister on hand, who is the queen of glam (think Kim Kardashian on steroids.)

For this particular wedding, I decided to tap into the bold, graphic, floral print trend as seen on SS17 designer catwalks such as Prada, Etro and Paul Smith. When I saw this little monochrome beauty from Coast, I INSTANTLY fell in love.

Monochrome is still very much 'in', although mostly through gingham and stripe patterns this season admittedly, a la Balmain and Chloe. I liked the simplistic nature of the dress immediately - and the fact that I could dress it up with my hair and my make-up.

I thought I would keep my accessories 'safe' with black heeled sandals, black clutch bag and silver jewellery, so I could go ALL OUT with my hair and make-up.

I had my hair put up professionally into this chic style, which was formed by creating two braids either side of my head and proceeding to twist them into an elegant up-do.

I then went bold with my make-up, combining silver metallic eyeshadow on my eyes with black winged eyeliner and false eyelashes, in order to create maximum effect.

Finally, I finished off my wedding look using red as an accent colour on my painted toenails and matte liquid lips.

The wedding itself was such a great day! It was so lovely to be able to hang out with friends, meet new people and enjoy the English summer sunshine whilst being part of a very special celebration.

Dream Scribe is Live!

How's it going, guys?!

This is just a bit of a life update SLASH shameless plug.

As many of you already know, I recently launched my own freelance writing business. (Yes, that's right - I'm officially self-employed and I'M LOVING IT.)

In the two months that I've been freelance writing, I've managed to bag myself a fair few clients! Everything is progressing amazingly well! And I feel incredibly lucky waking up in the morning knowing that I get to do something I LOVE for a living.

Alongside collaborating with clients, I've been working hard to develop my professional business website. And I'm so excited that I can now share it with you all!

Beautiful 'Bianca': A Colour Pop Review

Last summer, a new beauty brand seemed to BURST onto the UK blogging scene. All of a sudden. At first there were only mere whispers of this LA-based cosmetics company, but then gradually more and more bloggers became aware of them. And the more bloggers shouted about them, the more people seemed to join in the conversation. There was no mistaking it; all of the recognition consisted of GOOD VIBEZ ONLY.

If you haven't heard of Colour Pop yet - then WHERE have you been?

I had my first little bundle shipped to me directly from the States a few months ago, and I have been wearing the make-up in excess ever since. I don't know why I'm saying 'make-up' when I actually only bought matte liquid lipsticks. OF COURSE. Due to the fact that I'm a massive matte liquid lipstick addict and all that jazz.

I first mentioned Colour Pop a few weeks ago during this post where I talked about my favourite style details of May. I said I should do a review of a Colour Pop matte liquid lipstick, seen as though it's one of my top three cosmetics brands for matte liquid lipsticks at the moment, alongside Sports Girl Australia and Kylie Cosmetics.

I have already reviewed the other two badboys so, without further ado, I bring you Colour Pop's beautiful 'Bianca'.

First of all, can I just say that the mauve hue of 'Bianca' is SERIOUSLY dreamy. It's a great alternative to the classic nude lipstick and compliments whatever colour your outfit is. It's sassy, it's stylish, and it makes more of an impact than a simplistic nude shade - without going overboard.

The super creamy formula and magic wand makes it SO easy to apply - and you get really good coverage even if you only put a little bit on. The colour never seems to be compromised (living up to the brand's name of Colour POP) and it stays on your lips for a good WHOLE DAY. Honestly. It just doesn't move when I wear it. Not one inch.

I'm totally in love.

There was one period of time over Christmas where I was just wearing this matte liquid lipstick CONSTANTLY. I like to put on 'Bianca' everyday as a way to dress up casual outfits, but it also looks fab with a glamorous dress.

And, at $6 per lipstick, you can't really go wrong now - can you?

6 Ways to Spend a Weekend Away in Door County

It might have been two months since I got back from Wisconsin after visiting my boyfriend, but I recently realised that I never wrote about our weekend away in Door County. Until now. And that is a CRIME, because Door County is B-E-A-UTIFUL!

I initially mentioned it on the blog after my first visit to Wisconsin back in December, when I talked about the highlights of my time over there, but I’ve decided that it’s so awesome that it deserves its very own special post.

SO, I apologise profusely that I’m a little late to the party with this – but better late than never, right?

If you’re heading to Wisconsin soon, or want to check out a new destination in the US of A, I’d certainly recommend Door County. With a variety of things to see, and cute little places to check out that look like they’ve jumped right out of a postcard, you’re sure to love it just as much as I do.

Here are my top 6 tips for how to spend a weekend away in Door County.

1. Go to Casey’s BBQ for Friday night Fish Fry.

If you don’t participate in Friday Fish Fry then are you even in Wisconsin? It’s a well-known ‘thing’ in this state that you ain’t gonna get away from. Everybody has Friday Fish Fry and everybody likes an alcohol beverage (or five). Casey’s BBQ - in the adorable little town of Egg Harbor - does crackin’ Friday Fish Fry. If you’re heading up to Door County for the weekend, pitstop here on your drive over so you can gorge on some delicious perch, potato salad and coleslaw. It’s unbelievably yummy - and unforgettable.

2. Stay at the Hilltop Inn in Fish Creek.

Fish Creek looks like those typical small American towns that you see in TV shows and movies. The fact that it’s right on Lake Michigan on the west coast, with its own harbour, makes it positively peaceful and serene. The Hilltop Inn provides amazing accommodation to stay at in the form of two-bedroom houses, complete with their own bathrooms, kitchen and living areas. These houses are spacious, well-kept and homely – and also have their own fireplace in the living area and hot tub in the bath! What more could you ask for?

3. Visit some (or all) of the wineries.

The first time we were in Door County, Nathan took me wine tasting. At 10AM. That’s right, whilst most people were waking up on their Saturday off work and having breakfast, I was getting a little too merry on multiple samples of wine. (Welcome to Wisconsin!) This time around, we waited until a reasonable hour before we started hitting up the wineries (ahem, midday). However, as there’s so many located in Door County, it would be rude to only visit one. (Ahem.) My favourites are Door Peninsula, Harbor Ridge (yes, Americans miss out the ‘U’ in harbour but let’s just gloss over that) and Stone’s Throw Winery. Feel free to check them out, but don’t expect to walk out of any of them sober.

4. Have breakfast at Al Johnson’s in Sister Bay.

Sister Bay is super pretty, with little beaches lining the bay, and what better way to admire the scenery than from one of the restaurants on the waterfront? Al Johnson’s is a Swedish restaurant that has great brunch! Traditional American breakfasts are given a European twist, there are a variety of drinks on offer and I hear they also rustle up a nice dinner. Whether you decide to go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it’s definitely an eatery that’s not to be missed!

5. Drive through Bailey’s Harbor to see Lake Michigan.

Want to see Lake Michigan in all its glory? Take a drive through Bailey’s Harbor and you’ll be able to park up right on the edge of the lake and photograph it until your heart’s content. With its multi-tonal blue water and golden sands, its beauty is simply breathtaking.

6. Visit Cave Point.

Cave Point County Park is situated in Sturgeon Bay and features underwater caves, hiking trails and limestone cliffs on the edge of Lake Michigan. When we went to see it, it was extremely cold and icy, which made the cliffs look even cooler! (No pun intended.) We had a little walk along the clifftops – which would have been much more pleasant in warmer weather, admittedly – before we hit the road to get back to my boyfriend’s home town of Green Bay. It was just a LOVELY way to spend our last morning.

It goes without saying that the towns in Door County have some pretty decent shopping too. We spent a good amount of time browsing the independent stores and local boutiques during our two days there. I loved our days out, but there was also nothing better than snuggling up in front of our fireplace at the Hilltop Inn, with a bottle of wine that we’d purchased from one of the wineries earlier that day, and a good film. It’s the little things in life...

...But, it’s also the big things. Door County is seriously great. I’d love to go back in summer now that I’ve experienced it twice during off peak times in winter. I bet it would have a whole different feel to it in the warm weather, with a bunch of tourists swarming around! Either way, I can’t wait to go back and do all of these things all over again.
